Youth.

In South Asia, a generation of young people are paving bold new pathways and opportunities for themselves and future generations. This photography collection documents the aspirations of some of the region’s most inspiring youth, capturing their unique perspectives and experiences of growing up in Asia.

What did we do.

Photography.

We worked with UNICEF ROSA in Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives to produce photo stories documenting children and young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and contexts. For example, in Bhutan, we visited a monastery school nestled in the Himalayas to spend a peaceful afternoon with some young monks in training.

Bhutan is the only country in the world to measure the health of its population by GNH – Gross National Happiness.

From concept to delivery.

In the Maldives, we produced a photo story with Neeshan who’s challenging gender stereotypes with her ambition to become a Civil Engineer. Neeshan defies convention everyday by turning up to work in the male dominated world of construction. Neeshan’s story was part of a package of multimedia content illustrating UNICEF’s work bridging the gap between education and employment.

Another inspiring story from the Maldives is that of Afaa. Afaa is a social influencer and environmental activist who goes by the name TheIslandGirl. Afaa lives on the island of Kulhudhuffushi where development is occurring at the expense of the environment. Afaa uses her platform to educate her peers and advocate for restoring and protecting the environment.
