Reportage photography for an undercover investigation.

Despite The Gambia’s abundant fishing grounds, food insecurity continues to rise, driven by the relentless demands of the fishmeal and fish oil (FMFO) industry. Coastal communities, once reliant on fishing for sustenance and local trade, are increasingly forced to supply FMFO factories, which export their catch to feed global markets rather than local populations.

In collaboration with Changing Markets, we captured journalistic photography to document the human and environmental impact of this industry.

Our imagery formed part of an in-depth investigation, shedding light on how an industry built on extraction is pushing communities further into food insecurity.
